Addressing the Gender Gap: Research into Women's Role in Climate Talks

SAEDI Consulting (Barbados) Inc. is pleased to announce our collaboration with IIED's Climate Change Research Group on a groundbreaking project, "Understanding the gender imbalance at the international climate negotiations." The study focused on the challenges women face in participating in critical UN international climate talks.

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿšบ The IIED’s latest blog by  Fernanda Alcobé and Elaine Harty, discusses the barriers that hinder women's meaningful involvement in climate negotiations, with a particular focus on the least developed countries (LDCs). The blog also highlights successful strategies that promote women's visibility and participation in international climate decision-making spaces.

We invite you to stay engaged as we share invaluable information on the findings and insights from each research phase through our blogs and the final research paper.

The SAEDI Consulting (Barbados) Inc. team played a crucial role in compiling the literature review on existing research regarding the low participation of women in various processes. This comprehensive review served as the foundation to inform subsequent data collection, stakeholder interviews, and surveys. The survey was disseminated to negotiators, national focal points, gender focal points, and NGOs from LDCs and stakeholder interviews were held with negotiators, national focal points, and NGOs. Through these efforts, the primary objective was to uncover the underlying structural factors contributing to the gender imbalance within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). By identifying these barriers, we can work together to design and develop successful interventions and strategies that promote women's visibility and active participation in international climate decision-making spaces.
