Happy World Environment Day 2025! 


This year's theme "Beat Plastic Pollution" is a call to address one of the biggest environmental issues.Plastic pollution poses numerous risks to the environment and to human health. Our focus this World Environment Day is on highlighting these effects and the innovative solutions led by women and Indigenous Peoples (IPs) to address plastic pollution. 

Across many different regions of the world - from South America to Africa, to Asia - women and IPs have exhibited their goal and commitment to managing plastic pollution in their communities. Their initiatives such as the recycling and repurposing of plastics, emphasise the role they play in environmental protection, management and sustainabilility. Through their work, women and IP serve as inspirations to others to #BeatPlasticPollution. 

Our blog, entitled Our Power, Our Planet: Women and Indigenous Peoples in Plastic Waste Management, spotlights innovative solutions led by women and IPs, and makes the case for urgent plastic waste management to achieve key Sustainable Development Goals by the fast-approaching deadline of 2030.
